Educated Fulani-Zongo Girl: I doff my hat to Samira Bawumia – Ursula at NPP Nasara event

Communication Minister and Member of Parliament Ursula Owusu-Ekuful have said she doffs her hat out to Second lady Samira Bawumia for her belief in education and championing the same in Ghana’s Zongo communities.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful was speaking at the first-ever Savannah Regional Nasara Wing durbar in Damongo where she said she is happy about the statements of Samira Bawumia on Free SHS and her background as a Fulani-Zongo lady.
Last month, Samira Bawumia made a reference to her ‘Fulani and Zongo’ background when she advised the women of Wenchi to take advantage of President Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS program and make sure their children are prepared for the future just like herself.
The second lady made the statement in an address when she paid a working visit to Wenchi Zango Chiefs.
“I am happy to be here. It is Zongo I come from. I am a Fulani but I was born in Zongo. So when I look here it is my people and when I look there it is my people. If not for education, I won’t be standing here today. It is not because I was more intelligent than my contemporaries, it is rather the opportunities education gave me.” She said as she switched from Twi to Hausa trying to explain to the women of Wenchi how they can benefit from Akufo-Addo’s flagship education package.
She urged the parents to take advantage of Akufo-Addo’s free SHS program and ensure their children get full education because there is space for them at the top too irrespective of where they come from.
Doff my hat out to Samira -Ursula
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful like Samira Bawumia, she would have been a charcoal seller without education.
“Her Excellency Hajia Samira Bawumia said something profound and some people are insulting her but I doff my hat out to the second lady. She said were it not education, where would she, a Zongo Fulani woman be. I can say the same for myself, were it not for education, I would be selling charcoal because I’ve sold charcoal before. Today, by God’s grace and because I went to school, I’m a lawyer and a communications minister. So, I’ll encourage everyone to take advantage of the policies that we’re putting in place in education to educate our people” she said.
“Not just have we established the Zongo ministry, we’ve set up the Zongo Development Fund and I’m sure you can all testify that when it comes to the infrastructure they are working when it comes to education Zongos have felt it when it comes to employment you have seen it. Our Arabic teachers are being given allowances, we’ve focused on you not because we don’t have anything to do but we recognize the importance Zongos and Nasaras are to everything that we do in this country.”
